June 8, 2013 - Some of the Smiths had it pretty goo
This stately English manor/castle was the home of Sir Michael Smith, 1130-1192, my 29th generation great grandfather. The castle was awarded to Sir Michael by King Richard II, c. 1180.

June 7, 2013 - Grandma Smith Huber's Grandparents
Please meet John Carl & Elzabeth Davis Smith. The pictures were taken in about 1910. John Carl's
dates are 1832-1914, so Elizabeth's would be similar. John & Elizabeth are my 2nd generation great grand parents. They are buried in Bennet, Nebraska (just 10 miles SE of us) and we visited the cemetery and found their graves and have pictures of same. Exciting find.Rod

June 6, 2013 - ONE OF MANY
Between the Smith family on the Reichel side and the Kiger family on the Lininger side, we have an unbelievable number of Kings & Queens in our ancestry. I am keeping track of them. They range from the English/Scots/Irish all the way to the Byzantine Empire and Ethiopia. Above is King Edgar Aetheling of England, king for all of 2 months and his consort Queen St. Margaret of Scotland, who also married King Malcom III of Scotland. The building is Chateau de Cartel, in Auvergne, France, home of Vicomtess Adyle Agnes de Cartel. All three of these folks are 30th generation great grand parents to me.

June 5, 2013 - 30th Generation King of France
Still in the Smith Generation 30, probably will be for the rest of the week. We have a lot of royalty to brag about, both from the Smith (Reichel) & Kiger (Lininger) lines. Above is King Robert Capet II of France, 972-1000 & his queen, Constance Toulouse, 985-1032. 29th Great Grandparents to me.

June 3, 2013 - Nathaniel Greene
Nathaniel Greene was a Major General in the Revolutionary war (1775-1783). After the British had conquered most of the southern colonies, Greene was put in charge in the South. He steadily drove the British northward and was instrumental in the surrender of the British at Yorktown in 1781. George Washington had chosen General Greene as his successor should anything happen to him. He lived from 1742-1786. Also included is his wife Katherine. Nathaniel Greene is Catherine Irene Smith Huber's 3rd Great Grandfather and is in Generation 6 of the Smith family tree.

Back in the sixties, there was a one hit wonder called "Lady Godiva". It was all about this would-be actress who got conned into performing in x-rated productions. The song came from a legend about a "Lady Godiva" way back in history. Well, the legend is true. This is Lady Godiva de Becket, SISTER OF SAINT THOMAS de Becket. She died in 1088, and is my 28th great grandmother in the Smith line. The story is true, she actually rode thru the town her husband, Sir......., owned. Stark buck naked. He said if she would do it, he would lower taxes on the people in his fiefdom. She did, and the rest is history.

Greetings. This is my new blog site: reichelgeneologyproject@gmail.com
Yup, another step into the 21st century. On this site you will find interesting tidbits about the eight families as I work thru them. Right now, you are looking at a painting of William "the elder" Brewster. One of the members of the original Pilgrim group on the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock in 1620. Guess what? He is a relative of my grandmother, Catherine Smith Huber, mother of Ruth Huber Reichel. So, we have relatives that came over on the first AND second ships to the new world.
Hope you enjoy these.
